Evelyn Joyce Smith

October 4, 1928November 5, 2018

Evelyn Joyce Smith, 90, of Columbia entered fully into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, November 5, 2018.

Evelyn Joyce Beebe was born on October 4, 1928 in Grandview, Missouri, the daughter of Frank and Martha (Matthes) Beebe. Evelyn attended grade school in Kansas City and graduated from David H. Hickman High School in 1945. She then attended Christian College (now Columbia College), graduating in 1947. Evelyn was married on June 20, 1948, to Orian Smith; they shared 67 wonderful years together.

Evelyn lived a life full of love devoted to Jesus Christ and serving her family. She faithfully cared for her family and friends, especially through her delicious baking and gifts for sewing and knitting. Evelyn cherished time spent with family and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Evelyn is survived by two sons and one daughter: Wayne (Cindy) Smith of Longmont, Colorado; Dale (Betty) Smith of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas; and Joyce (Clint) Miller of Columbia, Missouri. Evelyn was a beloved Grandma to Gretchen, Dale, Natalie, Cooper, David, Sarah, Emily Joyce, and Travis and an adoring great-grandmother to all of their children. She is also survived by her nephew, Scott (Amy) Beebe of Germantown, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, and one daughter-in-law, Deborah L. Smith.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Coyote Hill Christian Children’s Home.

Our hearts are heavy with the sad news of Evelyn's death. She and Orian were powerful support to us personally and to our church. Their hearts were full of kindness and compassion. Since returning to Columbia we have visited Evelyn a few times. I was told by one of our Elders a few weeks ago after seeing her that I should wait for a time when she could be aware of our visit. But now it's too late, and I am grieving for that lost opportunity. Please know your parents were/are deeply loved at Broadway. We have missed them in these past few years. Our prayers are with you in these days of sadness. But there is also the comfort of God's powerful love that now embraces them for all time to come. Peace and love to you,

Don and Alice Jane Lanier

To the Smith family,
Back in 1985 I started my carrier as a Shelter agent in Mexico. Orian and Evelyn were always extremely gracious and encouraging to us. And, that meant a lot to a young agent trying to find his way. We would like to extend our sincere condolences! Larry & Carol Bedford
