Floyd was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Pierce Harold Strader and Rosa Katherine (Cook) Jones. He moved to Columbia in the fall of 1950. He attended both country and city schools and the University of Missouri. He joined the United States Navy in 1961, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1965. His service included three tours of duty in the Tonkin Gulf. Floyd worked at various jobs in Columbia and began working at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Administration Hospital in 1982, where he worked for about nine years. He worked for other governmental agencies for about four years.
Floyd did genealogical research for 40+ years and has authored volumes of work on Boone County, Missouri cemeteries. He has been featured in both local newspapers for his work done on locating and indexing county cemeteries. Floyd was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a member of other organizations as well. Floyd's original SAR (Sons of the American Revolution) ancestor was George Wampler Sr. His mother's DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) papers were on George Wampler and she had two DAR supplementals.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 20 at 12:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Missouri Sons of the American Revolution - M. Graham Clark Chapter, P.O. Box 464, Columbia, MO 65205-0464.
