George Earl Gibson died on January 7, 2015 at Boone Hospital in Columbia, MO, with his family by his side. He was born July 22, 1928, in Boone County, to Aubrey and Anna Rebecca (McCown) Gibson. He was a 1946 graduate of Hickman High School. He was a member of the Kewpie football team for three years. In June of 1946, he joined the United States Marines. He was honorably discharged in January 1949. He attended the University of Missouri. He was employed by American Optical and the City of Ashland. He loved hunting and fishing. He is preceded in death by his parents and step-father, Virgil Vestal. He is survived by a first cousin, Celeste Davidson (Jack) of California; first cousin, Larry McCown (Dee) of Rifle, CO; cousins, Karen Loyd-Minear (Bobby), Will and Sam Minear all of Edina, MO; Norma Loyd of Ashland, MO; Charlene Loyd of Jefferson City, MO; and many more cousins. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 11 from 1:00 – 2:00 pm at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia. Graveside services will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the Southern Boone County Public Library, 109 N. Main Street, Ashland, MO 65010.
