Gerald W. “Jerry” Cromley, 70, of Columbia, MO passed away on September 16, 2021. A visitation will be held Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church from 10:00 am – 11:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow along with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Jerry was born May 28, 1951 in Marshall, MO to William and Charlotte (Thomas) Cromley. He was a graduate of Marshall High School, class of ’69, where he was active in football, wrestling, and student government. After high school, Jerry attended Missouri Valley College. He graduated Cum Laude in ’73, majoring in business administration and economic development. On June 8, 1974, Jerry was united in marriage to Janice “Jan” West at St. Peter Catholic Church in Marshall, MO. Jan preceded him in death in 2007. After graduation, Jerry worked for several companies: Wilson Foods Corp. as purchasing manager, Tiger Packing Inc. as owner and partner, MO Dept. of Health as manager of professional services, contracts, and procurement, and the MU College of Engineering grants administrator.
In addition to his careers, Jerry was very active in the community. He was a founding director of the MU Hospital and Clinics MS Institute, which offers free services to help those with MS and their families. He held many offices and helped with charitable events with the Knights of Columbus where he was a Fourth Degree member. Jerry was also the recipient of the J.C. Penney Golden Rule Award.
Gerald is preceded in death by his wife; parents; and brother, Thomas Cromley. He leaves behind nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends to cherish his memory.
