Survivors include: his wife, Barbie Underwood of the home; three children, Hannah Underwood of Overland Park, KS, Brian Underwood of Columbia, MO and Derek Underwood of Columbia, MO; his parents, Tony and Thelma of El Dorado Springs, MO; one brother, Tim Underwood and Shelly Young of Stockton, MO; and his dear friend, Billy Williams. Greg lived his life for his family and friends. His greatest joys were watching his children grow into amazing adults. If you asked him, he would tell you about Hannah catching her first fish on the banks of Horse Creek. His “shadow” Brian who when asked how he busted his chin open requiring stitches responded “I wasn’t doing anything, it just started bleeding!” The time when he and Billy were sitting on the tailgate of his truck watching Derek play catch off the tree.

Greg was an accomplished coach. He coached Brian’s Columbia Youth Football team Colts, Brian’s Stealers baseball team and Derek’s Starpath baseball teams.

To say he will be greatly missed is a total understatement. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, c/o Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 West, Columbia, MO 65202.

Greg,
You had such an affect on my life. You got stuck training me when I started at US Foods. You were always patient and kind. You never saw a reason to be negative or frustrated-even when we were down to the wire with timelines, you always said ‘just wait, it will work out and be okay.”-and yes, you were always right.

You certainly became a mentor, but most of all a big brother. You took care of everyone, and always did this with a smile. You came across as nonchalant, but your messages always made a big impact.

The pride you had in Barbie and your kids was always more of a focus to you than work ever was-and all of us that worked With you any capacity knew how important your job and customers were too.

You have made an everlasting impression on me. Thank you so much for all of the blessings and life lessons. Any time I think about you, that silly grin of yours comes to mind.

Please accept my deepest condolences to the Underwood family. “Underdog” was always a consummate gentleman who put family first. His second love was the transportation industry. You will be missed by many and I would like to thank you for being my friend.

I was blessed to know Greg, two weeks ago I feel I shared a divine appointment with him. I was walking up the road and he was walking down the road when we stopped to chat, I said Greg I don’t even recognize you buddy what are you doing? He said well I talk to my doctor and I needed to lose some weight and start walking, I told him I was in the same boat my doctor told me to start walking to strengthen my core. I got to tell Him just tell proud I was of him. I left him feeling totally energized and wanting to accomplish what he had accomplished. Oh my love to Barbie, and her family. To Billy, I am so sorry I hurt from the bottom of my heart. Best friends or just once in a lifetime some days, and I know he was yours. We’re right next-door when you need us, you will hurt and be mad and have pain. Just know that we love you and we’re here. Blessings to all of you.
