Over the past ten or so years I’ve always looked forward to Athletic Department events, because I got to see Herb. He truly was one of my favorite people on the planet. His genuine love for others was magnetic, and that smile that could light up the room, well, as they say, they don’t make ‘em like they used to. Goodbye my favorite conservative friend. Rest in peace. We will miss you.

My friend Herb was such a wonderful person. He was always concerned about the people he worked with, he was the shining light when you would meet him in the hallways of the Hearnes Center. If you needed anything you could look up Herb and he would do whatever was necessary to help. When I was going through my cancer treatment-he would check on me every day to see how I was doing. I will always value his friendship. God truly took an angel! He will be missed.

Herb was the most thoughtful, kind and gentle person I have ever had the pleasure of knowing or working with. He was thoroughly dedicated and loyal to his family and his faith. Herb always spread happiness, joy and love to everyone he came in contact with. He exemplified the true example of carrying out the golden rule. If he didn’t have something nice to say, he just wouldn’t say it at all. Even when provided the opportunity, when a person was negative and or had done him wrong or had done someone else wrong, Herb would walk away and keep his opinion to himself rather than voicing it or partaking in saying anything negative about anyone. Herb exemplified what it is to be a true Christian. Herb was passionate about the University of Missouri, its students and student athletes. He truly had a profound impact on me as well as most everyone he came in contact with. I’m selfishly sad to see him go, but so happy that he is no longer in pain and that he has been granted the opportunity to rejoin his lovely wife and be with the lord.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of his family and loved ones

Herb was such a kind and wonderful man. It was always a pleasure to see him outside working in his yard and flowers or just enjoying the day. We would stop and chat and he would often offer our dog a drink from his hose. His smile and kindness will be missed by all of us.

I worked with Herb at Mizzou Athletics for many years. I was so sad to hear of his passing. I first met Herb when he came into my office and asked if I was "Brett's mother". He had worked with my son over the summer and said he needed to meet me and proceeded to tell me that my son was one of the most hard working and polite young men he had ever met. It meant so much to me that he felt the need to come meet me and tell me about his experience with my son. What I realized was that Herb was one of a kind. He truly was one of the kindest, honest and gentle souls I have ever met. From that day on I never saw Herb that he didn't greet me with a hug, smile and ask how me and my family were doing. He made an incredible impression on all whom he met, including my son, who had this to say when I told him of Herb's passing, "He was among the sweetest most genuine people I’ve ever met. One of the few that could truly brighten your day by just a smile and a few words." I couldn't have said it better myself. He became such a great friend over the years, one that I looked forward to seeing frequently and am going to miss him so very badly. Please know that he is going to be missed so incredibly much here but we know he is now in a better place. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. He spoke of you all often. I loved hearing about his trips to Florida and about his family here. God Bless you all.

I was fortunate to work with Herb at Mizzou Athletics. He was truly one of the very best people. He was kind, considerate, always had a warm smile and a hug. I visited Herb at his home on October 2nd shortly after his diagnosis. He was strong, confident, and I could tell not afraid of the journey ahead. I know he missed Joyce every single day since she passed and probably the joy of seeing her again soon far outweighed what he was facing. A true example of dignity and loyalty. I'm lucky to have known Herb. I will truly miss seeing him. To his family, my sincerest sympathies are with you at this time.
