Columbia, MO - Jeanie Ann Skaggs, 74, of Higbee, MO passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, at University Hospital, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on October 9, 1951, in West Plains Missouri, Jeanie was the daughter of Dale and Betty (Smotherman) Brazeal. Jeanie married her husband Larry, on August 1st, 1969, where she started making a home for their family while Larry was deployed in the Army from March 1970 to October 1972. She was known for her strong work ethic and determination. She spent many years as a heavy equipment operator, a career that reflected her resilience, skill, and willingness to take on challenging manual work. Her dedication and craftsmanship followed her into the final chapter of her professional life, where she served as a Master Painter for the University of Missouri. There, she was best known for her talent, attention to detail, and commitment to excellence.
Throughout her life, Jeanie enjoyed scrapbooking, camping, fishing, gardening, and spending time with her family. She found joy in the outdoors and tending to her flower gardens and always developing her love of horticulture.
Jeanie is survived by her daughter, Wendy Auck (Danny); sons, Ryan Skaggs (Ashlee); Shane Skaggs and Shawn Skaggs; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandsons; her siblings and a wide circle of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Betty (Smotherman) Brazeal, and her husband of 56 years, Larry.
Visitation will be held 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3rd, at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia, MO with services to follow.
