Jim Bass

James “Jim” Allen Bass, 60, Millersburg, died Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Boone Hospital Center. A visitation from 1pm to 3 pm Tuesday October 13, 2015 will be held at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W, Columbia, MO, followed by a Memorial Service at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Jude’s or the Columbia Humane Society.

Jim was born January 2, 1955 in Fort Myers, Florida, the son of Brown and Betty (Poole) Bass. He married Janet Swearingen on June 30, 1990 in Columbia, MO. Survivors include his wife Janet and children Michael Swearingen of Bloomington, IL and Stephanie (Chris) Gross of Raymore, MO. He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Gage (Michael), Cora, Hannah, and Jaxon (Stephanie); sister Lynn Johns of Seattle; brother Richard (Melissa) of Columbia; nephews Graeme and JT Johns and great nephew Jalyn Johns (Graeme); nephew Mikel and niece Carey Bass (Richard).

Jim worked as a carpenter for many years in Columbia and for the past ten years at The Short Stop in Millersburg. He loved his Royals baseball team and his New York Giants football team. He enjoyed cooking and candy making, fishing, and his dogs. Jim was always ready with a joke or a smile for everyone he met. He was a joy to be around and will be missed.
