Rob, I have fond memories of your Mom and your family..I met you all when you came to Columbia when we were in third grade at Grant - I was amazed at how many Pinnells there were!  Your home was always a fun place to visit - with a lot of love and activity going on all the time!  I know your Mom had a lot to do with all that.  I"m sorry for your loss and happy for the many memories of a great Mom and lady you have.

Judge Pinnell was a great person.  Strong in her convictions, and always willing to fight for what she believed was right, she felt every person deserved dignity and respect and fairness under the law. Couldn't we use more Judge Pinnells these days?

She and my mother were great friends, walking the streets of Columbia together and having many great discussions.  I am not sure they saw the world in quite the same light, but each treasured their friendship and had total respect for one another.  Joan raised a great family and was an example of how to bring up great citizens each with their own personality and all with radiant joy.  

What a great matriarch!  Here's to the Judge!

Joan and her family moved into the other side of our duplex when we first moved to Columbia. Our families became life-long friends. When her husband died and left her with seven children we were devastated. Joan then became a role model to me for courage and determination. She was an amazing woman in the way she stood up to her challenge. She had so much wisdom to share. I am so glad I got to know her humorous side as well. I am still blessed to be friends with her wonderful daughter, Linda, who I went to school with for several years. Joan was an incredible person, and we will all miss her.

Joan was a dear friend to my family for 58 years and my wife Sonia and I enjoyed our visits to her home while in Columbia. I always admired how well she took charge of her life, raised her family and reestablished her legal career after her husband's early death. She was witty and wise and we shall miss her.
