

Joanne Marie Cummings, 53, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, MO. She was born October 23, 1963, in Chicago IL to Jack and Betty Cummings, who preceded her in death. Joanne was ‘lucky number 7’ of 10 children. She loved everyone and did not know a stranger. She mentioned many times to those she loved, “I won’t forget you. You won’t forget me.”
Joanne was a graduate of St. Mary’s Special School and of St. Joseph’s Vocational School in St. Louis. She held a variety of jobs in St. Louis and Monroe, Louisiana. She participated in Special Olympics for many years and represented Louisiana in the first national Special Olympics in Ames, IA in 2006. Joanne was assisted in many resident communities: Most recently Finck Supported Living Services in Holts Summit, MO, Woodhaven in Columbia, MO, and the GB Cooley community for over 20 years in Monroe, LA. Joanne was a long time parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Monroe, LA and St. Pius V in St. Louis.
She is survived by eight siblings: John (Evelyn), Mary, Joe (Kay), guardian Cathy (Kevin Lanahan), of Jefferson City, MO, Margaret (Steve Kleitz), Christopher (Nelia), Irene and Dorothy (Cormac Flynn). She was preceded in death by her sister, Liz (Dan Browning). Beloved aunt of many nieces: (Rose (Tim), Constance, Catharine, Carolyn, Christina, Elsa, Troian, Sarah and Jessie), nephews: (Joseph (Chrisi), Jason (Sasha), Adam, David, Michael (Maria), Billy, Nathan, Jarrett, Jackson) and greats (Derek; Ethan; April) and cousins: Valerie (David Peet, Alaina, Caden) and John Newton.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 19, at noon at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jefferson City. Memorials may be made to Special Olympics Missouri.
