
Born in New Bloomfield, Missouri, to Grover and Nannie (Emmons) Bell, John lived a life defined by love of family, faithful service to his country, and dedication to his work and community.
John proudly served in the United States Air Force, enlisting in 1951 and receiving his honorable discharge in 1955. He was deeply patriotic and remained proud of his military service throughout his life.
Following his service, John attended the University of Missouri, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business. He later enjoyed a successful career with the University of Missouri, serving in Information Technology Administration until his retirement.
On January 4, 1952, John married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Faye Wilson, in New Bloomfield, Missouri. Together they built a beautiful life and shared 74 years of love, devotion, and countless treasured memories.
John's greatest joy was his family. He cherished every opportunity to spend time with those he loved and created lasting memories through his kindness, unwavering support, and gentle presence.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his daughter, Dana Bell of Springfield, Missouri; his grandson, Blake James- Bell of Springfield, Missouri; his brother-in-law, Norman Wilson and his wife, Sue, of Guthrie, Missouri; along with several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends who will miss him greatly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Nanny Bell, and his sister, Anna Pearre.
John will be remembered for his steadfast love for his family, pride in serving his country, and the kindness he extended to everyone who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Food Bank or the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
Family and friends are invited to share words of comfort and support during the visitation on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia, Missouri. Funeral services honoring and celebrating John's life will immediately follow at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Private committal prayers, military honors, and burial will be held at Callaway Gardens Cemetery in Fulton, Missouri.
