Josaline Wilhite, 105, of Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2021. Josaline, known by most as Jo, was born in Harrisburg on April 20, 1916 to Everette and Vernice Jennings. She had two brothers, John Jennings and Bob Jennings, and one sister, Leta May Shutt, all who preceded her in death.
Josaline married Mansel (Denver) Wilhite on January 11, 1936. He preceded her in death in 1985. Josaline is survived by her two children, Gerald Wilhite (Martha) of Columbia and Sue Crouse (Ron) of Columbia; grandchildren, Randy Wilhite, Missy Barnes (Russell), Christa Smith (Allen), and Doug Crouse (Kay); great-grandchildren, Jesse Barnes (Jordan), Nick Barnes, Matthew Barnes, Tyler Stone (Chelsea), Tanner Stone (Rebecca), Alana Smith, Evan Crouse, and John Crouse; and great-great grandchildren, Eli Barnes, Deacon Stone, and Silas Stone.
Her family will treasure the memories of Christmas Eve dinners filled with the aroma of her amazing homemade rolls and green beans, neither of which has been recreated as good as grandma used to make.
Josaline spent most of her adult life as a homemaker, but had brief jobs as a teacher at Strawn School and as a realtor. She loved gardening and could regularly be seen tending to the flowers in her yard. She and her husband were also longtime members of Broadway Christian Church in Columbia.
Visitation will take place on Friday, December 17, 2021 from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm at Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow.
