Khiyus “Khi” Gabriel Karzel Holloway, 2, of Columbia, MO, transitioned to the heavens on June 13, 2020 at 2:15 pm. Khi was born June 13, 2018 at 5:31 pm at Women and Children’s Hospital in Columbia, MO. He is the Son of Brendon Dixon-Turner and Shelia Holloway, both of Columbia, MO.

Khiyus was born a month and a half early due to complications during his mother’s pregnancy. He was born with critical and chronic developmental conditions such as: Lissencephaly & Septo Optic Dysplasia as well as a series of others which prevented him from living an everyday life. He was born blind, deaf, mute, and physically impaired, causing him to spend 14 months in the NICU. Khi was loved and cared for at the hospital by many, including his Neurological specialists, cardiologists, eye doctors, nurses, and many others.

Coming home, he was not able to attend school. Khi did receive much from private duty nurses, physical therapists, support through BCFR, & Compassus, and the many other support teams he required. He was intubated and eventually had a tracheotomy and g-tube placed at 7 months. Khiyus eventually did pass a hearing exam at 10 months of life, and was shortly discharged from NICU August 14, 2019. He was loved inside and outside the hospital.

Though Khi had many doctor visits and PICU stays afterwards, whenever he was home, he enjoyed spending time with his loved ones. Khi loved getting his hair washed, bathing in his big boy tub, going on walks in his stroller, being held and cuddled, being read to, and listening to music. Although Khi never spoke, he had his own way of communicating his feelings and his love. From the bright smirk that often graced his face, how he would stretch like he just finished a 40 hour work week, how he would grip your finger, babble with a gentle and sweet voice, and set off his alarms when the room got too quiet just to make sure he was not alone, Khi was heard by all that were close to him and spoke his language. For that, Khi’s voice is fondly remembered, as well as his life and the impact it has left.

Khiyus is preceded in death by his great grandparents: Rubbie Echols, Johnny R. Brooks (both of Michigan) Leonard H. Holloway (of Michigan) Brandon U. Dixon, Janine Turner, Dennis Miller, Mary Lane, and Charles Hearn; and sister E'Miya Spain, all of Missouri.

He leaves to cherish his memory: Parents, Shelia Holloway and Brendon Turner-Dixon of Columbia, MO; big sister, Miss Genesis (GG) Holloway of Columbia, MO; brothers, Kendrick, Massiah, Xavier, and Ty Dixon of Columbia, MO; grandmothers, Annetta Echols-Holloway, Denise Rochelle Turner, and Ebony Turner; grandfathers Donald A. Holloway and William Alfred Lane, and special grandfather, Jethro Baker; great-grandmother, Priscilla D.
