Born March 30, 1963, in Carthage, Missouri, Koy spent most of his life in Columbia and was a graduate of David H. Hickman High School. Throughout his career, he worked in the family framing business, Frame Works, owned and operated Zoo Too clothing stores in Columbia and Jefferson City, and later founded Professional Turf Works. He took great pride in his work and especially valued his partnership and friendship with Cord Godbey, who became like a son to him.
Koy married Margie McNary on December 30, 2003. Together they enjoyed traveling, cruises, and especially spending time at the lake riding Sea-Doos, taking boat rides, and making memories with family and friends.
His greatest joy was his family and grandchildren, whom he loved deeply and supported wholeheartedly.
Koy is survived by his wife, Margie McNary; step-son Matthew Detherage-Gromer and husband Joshua Detherage-Gromer and their children Shelby and John; and step-daughter Courtney Glascock and husband Brandon Glascock and their daughters Lola, Emma, and Ella.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lee Gilliam, and father, Arlo McNary.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, with funeral service and burial immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a memorial fund being established in Koy’s honor for a park bench in a local community park.
