Larry was born on April 11, 1938, in Searcy, Arkansas, the son of Ernest Eugene and Mabel Louise (Henry) David, who preceded him in death. He had an affinity for learning, earning a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University. His career lead him to the University of Missouri-Columbia where he worked as a faculty member and administrator for over 30 years. He had a natural ability to teach and engage with students, which he treasured. The ability to teach and mentor others translated into a passion for officiating high school basketball and football. He was a leader within the Columbia Basketball Officials Association and the Columbia Football Officials Association where he contributed to inspiring countless young officials. Traveling to exotic regions of the world was common for Larry. He visited multiple countries and continents, spending many winters in the warmth of Southeast Asia. Other hobbies were enjoying theatre, going to movies, and reading. He was an avid Mizzou Athletics fan. He received the most joy in interacting with his family, especially his grandchildren. Whatever activity Larry was involved in, there was always a constant smile on his face.

The "Professor" what a great guy and a great outlook on life. We had great discussions on rules and applications. I always teased him how he used to dance all the time with my wife at Maxi's. I always appreciated how he took young officials under his wing and helped them succeed. He was a good friend and will be missed.

Craig, Brad and Tamara,
I am very sorry to hear of the passing of your Dad. I have so many wonderful memories of your Dad both inside and outside the classroom. I remember your Dad bringing you kids to the IIE student chapter BBQ’s at Cosmos Park. I remember Tamara hanging outside Larry’s office in the EE Bldg. Your Dad was very blessed with the gift of teaching. He touched so many student lives and mine. He will be greatly missed.
