Laura Lettemariam Castilow 72 of Columbia passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at The Neighborhoods. A Celebration of her life will be planned for a later date.
Laura was born on December 12 1946 in Cairo, Egypt and spent her early years living in Asmara, Eritrea before coming to the United States.
Laura was a hard working woman, often working several jobs at the same time. As a single parent she loved, cared for, provided and protected her children. Family was important to her and she loved her grandchildren fiercely. She was an amazing cook, was fluent in several languages, and had a guilty pleasure for games of chance, scratchers, bingo, and going to the boat.
Laura is survived by her three children: Harry Castilow (Dena) of Columbia; John Castilow (David Foulk) of Independence; Martha Castilow of Independence; five grandchildren: Madison Castilow; Jade Castilow; Malcom James Castilow; Sky Fisher; Alec Fisher and many great grandchildren. Being an orphan, Laura made lifelong friendships with the girls she grew up with in Eritrea as well as the Eritreans she met here in the states. She considered them family as did her own children.
