

The Rev. Margie Sue McDaniel Woods, 74, died Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Lenoir Woods. Funeral Service will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Missouri United Methodist Church, 204 S. 9th Street, Columbia, MO. The Reverend Kendall Waller and The Reverend Joan DeBoe will be officiating, with burial to follow in Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Fayette, MO. Friends and family may gather in the church parlor from Noon-2 pm Wednesday before the service.
She was born December 29, 1941 in Stoddard County, MO at home to Chester Forrest and Iva D. James McDaniel. A 1959 graduate of Advance High School; she was the Salutatorian of her graduation class. She received an A.A. degree from Hannibal LeGrange College (now University) in 1961 and in 1963 a B.S. in Education from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman University.) She taught in the Jefferson County, Kentucky public school system during the 1960's.
Margie then received a Master of Divinity Degree from St. Paul School of Theology in 1986. A member in full connection of the Missouri Conference of the United Methodist Church, she served Mt. Olivet, LaGrange, Durham Circuit, Lewis County Parish, Callao, Clayton, Maplewood, First (Hannibal) and Hydesburg, and First Festus/ Crystal City United Methodist Churches. At her retirement in 2007 as retiring Elder, she was chosen to place the mantle on one who was just beginning ordained ministry. Her involvements include: counseling persons with AIDS and their families, and serving on the Boards of Kingdom House and Epworth Children’s Home, and the Board of Ordained Ministry of the Missouri Conference.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, The Reverend Dr. Robert Gail Woods, whom she married on December 20, 1960 in First Baptist Church in Advance, MO. Other survivors include two brothers, James F. (Alice) McDaniel of Terre Haute, IN, and daughters, Jamie Michelle and Laurie Anne; Jerry Wayne Phelps (Tracy) and son Adam Peyton of Kettering, OH; a sister Bettye L. (Ron) McDaniel Alvis of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, and her sons Christopher and Clayton Williams. Sister-in-law Ruthie Woods (Richard E.) Craven of Columbia and her sons Jay (Kelly) Pridgeon and daughters Jessie and Joella of Centralia, MO, Troy (Rhonda) Pridgeon and daughters Kelita and Katrina of Olathe, KS and twin granddaughters, and Sean (Amia) Pridgeon and sons Austin Robert and Cullen Joseph of Fayette, MO.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret F. McDaniel and her brother, Dennis Wilson McDaniel.
