Marjorie was born on October 16, 1926 near Casper, Wyoming to William Paul Miller and Iva Farrens Miller, young homesteaders who settled northeast of Powder River, Wyoming. When Marjorie was 3 years of age, two brother workers came into the area, Oliver McRitchie and Homer O’Brien, preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Her parents grasped this doctrine and it changed their lives forever. Marjorie accepted this Gospel at the age of 11 and remained true to the end of her days.
The family moved to North Platte Valley, Wyoming in 1929, and Marjorie left home at the age of 21. She entered the Ministry in 1950 from Utah, after helping with preps for the first convention there. She was 24 years old. She labored mostly in the Midwest areas until her mother’s failing health necessitated her return to Utah, from 1980 until 1991. In 1992, she returned to active ministry work, and labored faithfully until her failing eyesight forced her retirement in 2008, when she settled in Columbia, Missouri, until her recent death.
Marjorie had 6 siblings, 3 brothers - Ottolyn, William and Thomas, all deceased and 3 sisters - Neva and Martha, deceased, and one surviving sister Viva Cloward (husband Mark) of Salt Lake City, Utah. She is also survived by nieces and nephews and their families.
Marjorie wrote her own obituary. In it, she said, “My favorite hymn is 337. I chose this hymn when I was 8 years old. The elder in the Wednesday night meeting asked if any of the children had a hymn. It has been my “headline” through life.”
Marjorie had an unfailing spirit. It was uncanny, the way she always had the right words, at just the right time. She was a great help to so many, and she will be deeply missed by all in her little meeting, and by everyone who knew her and loved her.
