

Born October 21, 1961, in Columbia, Mark remained deeply rooted in the community throughout his life. He was a proud graduate of Westminster College, earning a degree in business, and attended the University of Missouri as well. He was a dedicated member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and continued to serve on the house corporation board as an active alumnus for many years.
Throughout his life, he worked as a well-known commercial contractor, serving as President of Crawford Construction. Through his leadership and vision, he helped shape the local landscape, building numerous commercial properties such as schools, offices, apartments, and many projects on the University of Missouri campus. He was a member of Columbia Jaycee’s in the late 90’s and also a member of Leadership Columbia.
He was married to Wendy Carmack Crawford for 34 cherished years. Together, they raised two children: daughter Tessa Hulen (Josh) and son Hunter Crawford (Alexa). He was a proud grandfather to Harrison Hulen. Mark is also survived by his sisters, Elizabeth Rost (Thomas) and Dr. Kimberly Berni (Dr. Anthony); his mother, Jannene Slaughter; and stepmother, Virginia Crawford. He was preceded in death by his father, George Crawford, and his beloved aunt, Helen Crawford. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend.
An avid Missouri Tigers fan, Mark loved rounds of golf, winter days on the ski slopes, and time with his friends and family. He spent many days playing rec volleyball and softball in Columbia. Those who knew him will remember his calm and steady demeanor, quiet generosity, subtle sense of humor, and unwavering kindness.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mark’s memory to the American Cancer Society or CMSE Giving Gardens. There will be a celebration of life held at Country Club of Missouri in Columbia, MO from 1-3 pm on September 7th, 2025. Please come in your favorite Mizzou attire!
