Mark A. Hughes

Mark was born on April 11, 1956 in Overland Park, KS, the youngest of three children, to Francis Raymond and Sue (Lefforge) Hughes.

Mark married Laurie (Bennor) on November 3, 1984. His wife of 30 years, preceded him in death on October 4, 2014.

Mark graduated from Benton High School in St. Joseph, MO, in 1973. While serving 20 years in the army, Mark had tours of duty at Fort Riley, KS, in Germany, Honolulu, HI (where he married Laurie), South Korea, and retired at Fort Knox, KY. His family moved to Columbia, MO, in 1996 where he worked at Kraft Foods until he retired in 2014. Mark enjoyed league bowling with his team, firearm target practice, scuba diving, woodworking, and spending time with friends and family.

Mark is survived by his three daughters, Rebecca Gordon (David), Leah Hughes (Chris Schweizer), Casey Hughes (Gene Pierce); his mother, Sue Hughes; brother, Michael Hughes (Kathy); sister Marilyn Sommers (Tommy); two grandchildren, and a niece.

Preceding him in death were his wife, father, one niece and two nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Bus. Loop 70 W. Columbia, MO, on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00pm with service beginning at 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Missouri Honor Flight.

Mark’s great sense of humor and love of his family will be sadly missed.
