

Mary Hogan Rytter, 83, of Columbia formerly of Denver, Colorado, passed away Thursday, August 29th in Columbia. Visitation will be 6-8pm Friday at Memorial Funeral Home 1217 Business Loop 70 West Columbia, MO. Funeral Service will be 2pm Saturday at the funeral home followed by burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mary was born March 28, 1941 in Santa Cruz, CA to William and Mary Hogan. She was a graduate of Holy Names College in Oakland and was asked to be a nun for the Catholic Church. She was a very empathic woman; taking great care of other people. She took after her hero, Florence Nightingale, and worked many years as a nurse. Serving several years as a CNA and in the Emergency Room at Sequoia Hospital in California, then later moving into Private Care, taking care of families in their homes. She worked as a caregiver until her health no longer allowed. She also worked as a bookkeeper. During her life she moved from California to New Mexico, then Colorado, and finally Columbia to be near her grandson, Cameron. She stood on this scripture; “We suffer in the soul of another person, feeling with and participating in their inner world while remaining ourselves.”
She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Rytter (Edward Erwin) of Columbia; grandchildren, Jasmine Lynn Halliburton, Joshua Rytter, and Cameron Rytter; and her cat, C.J. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jens Rytter, and her parents.
