The family will receive guests at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia on Monday, May 18 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Columbia. Following the mass, inurnment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery, which will be private and limited to family.

Mary was born on November 19, 1941 in Le Mars, Iowa to the late Edmund and Bertha Steichen Thill. She was married to Tom Volkerding who also preceded her in death.

Mary attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Remsen, Iowa before moving to Florida where she met and fell in love with Tom. They moved to St. Louis, Missouri where they were married on November 30, 1968. For many years they lived in House Springs, MO and were lucky enough to have close friends as their neighbors for many years. After staying home with her daughter for several years, Mary began her career at O’Connor Insurance Agency. She enjoyed her work and was able to make many dear friends at the Agency.

Later, Mary moved to Columbia to be closer to her daughter Angela (Angie) and her family. She attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and there were three things that Mary loved the most, baking, gardening and watching her grandsons play soccer.

Survivors include her daughter Angela and her husband Adam along with their two children, Jacob and Luke Tipton all of Columbia. Other survivors include nieces and nephews and good friends. She will be missed by all.
