Patricia Dale Oberer, 77, of Columbia, Missouri, passed away August 17, 2014. She was born in Washington, D.C. to the late Stephen and Adelaide Debutts Smith on May 16, 1937. She graduated from University of Missouri with a Bachelors in General Studies and a Master of Arts in Journalism. Dale worked from 1973 to 1979 as the Administrative Assistant to the minister of Missouri United Methodist Church. For many years, she worked at the University of Missouri: School of Law as both the Admissions Advisor and Director of Student Affairs. From 1986 to 1988, Dale was a Counselor and Director of Oakland Center of the College of Professional Studies, University of San Francisco, in San Francisco, California. From 1988 to 1994, she taught journalism and public relations in the Department of Communications at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. Her marriage to distinguished jurist, dean and professor Walter Oberer ended with his death in 2001. Dale is survived by her children: Stephen Ketchie of Oregon, Karen (Herb) Cade of Columbia, Christopher (Tomoko Kawamoto) Ketchie of Long Island City, New York, and Gregg Ketchie of St. Louis; three step-daughters: Freya Brown of Nevada, Jill Oberer of Colorado, and Megan Oberer of Utah; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by her loving family and a host of friends who loved her for her kindness, talents (knitting!), wit (what a writer!), wisdom (such a reader, traveler and watcher of all things British!) and her extraordinary knack for friendship. Visitation will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, August 22, 2014, at Missouri United Methodist Church, with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 pm.
