Phyllis June Crawford

Phyllis was born July 2,1935, in El Dorado Springs, Missouri, to Forrest Chester Sumner and Emogene Sullivan Burks. She graduated from Hickman High School in 1953. Phyllis married Charles Walter Crawford on February 14, 1982. She retired from the University of Missouri Comptrollers office after over 30 years of service and was recognized for outstanding service to the Retirement & Staff Benefits Committee.

After retirement, Phyllis and her husband, Charles, spent winters at their home in Hilton Head, SC, and summers back in Columbia where they could be closer to family. She loved her flower garden and tended to it with love - especially her miniature roses. She spent her leisure time sewing and crafting. She leaves behind many beautiful works of needlecraft, holiday crafts, and yarn crafts that will be cherished for many years to come by her loved ones. Her curio cabinet filled with her collection of Precious Moments figurines, miniature cups and saucers, and hobnail milk glass were a joy to her. She looked forward every year to decorating for Christmas and loved her Christmas village and tree ornaments.

Survivors include three daughters, Teresa Wade Powers (Roy) of Lexington, SC, Becky Wade-Carlson of Centralia and Lori Lynn-Wade Ellis (Kevin) of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Dustin Timmerman, Emily Scoggins, Carli Ellis and Macie Ellis and one great-granddaughter, Avery Timmerman. She is also survived by one sister Sandra Burks Lee (Walker) of Wardsville.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Crawford, her father, Forrest Sumner, her mother, Emogene Burks, a sister, Nancy Coleman and a grandson, Brandon Timmerman.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the dedicated staff at Greenwood Memory Care and the compassionate nurses and caregivers with Compassus Hospice for the loving care and support provided to Phyllis.
