It is with great sadness that the family of Robert (Bob) W. Ginter announces his passing. Bob was a loving father, son, brother, friend, and grandfather who will be dearly missed. He passed away on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025, at the age of 86. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at a later date. The interment will be at St. Thomas More Newman Center Columbarium.
Bob was born on November 2, 1938, in Columbia, MO, at the Noyes Hospital on the University of Missouri campus. He was the third child of Albert Ginter and Adella Eppel Ginter. Bob was a very strong man with incredible faith in our Lord. He was a cradle Catholic and attended parochial school as a young boy. His father died when he was in preschool, and he was raised by his mother, brother Albert (Reverend Anselm), and his sister Betty. He attended Jefferson Junior High School and graduated from Hickman High School in 1956. Afterward, he attended the University of Missouri, where he was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity and received his degree in 1960. Bob also served in the National Guard for six years (Company A-175M. P Battalion MONG).
Bob and Jane Ebbs married on November 15, 1968, after meeting on a blind date. They were active members of St. Thomas More Newman Center, where Bob served as a lecturer, communion minister, and co-teacher of religious classes for several years. Bob was a member of the Campfire Board and the Optimist Club, and he volunteered at The Wardrobe and The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Columbia.
Bob worked his whole life for office supply companies. In his spare time, he had a passion for being outdoors, and he loved to float on the Missouri streams, walk the Katy Trail before it was known as such, travel to Eagle Bluffs, and visit Rock Bridge Memorial State Park with his family. As an avid environmentalist, he spent hours working in his garden. His family was his life, and he took immense pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. The joy on his face when he was around his grandchildren reflected his love for them. They equally loved and adored their “Papa,” who had humorous nicknames for all of them. At one point, a niece told him he was her “rock” when she was growing up.
In his retirement, Bob sat on his deck and watched the animals in his backyard. He especially liked birds, squirrels, and bunnies. He spoiled the birds with black sunflower seeds and a heated birdbath in the winter.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Albert (Reverend Anselm), and his brother-in-law Richard Adams (Dick). He is survived by his loving wife, Jane, of 56 years; his sister, Betty Adams; his daughters, Sarah Ginter-Novinger (Doug Novinger), Sandi Ginter (Aaron Frazee), and Jacqueline Roland (Mark Roland); his grandchildren, Audrey and Brooke Novinger, Raymond, Ceci, and Sofi Frazee, Zachary, Isabella, and Tanner Roland, and several nieces and nephews.
Bob’s family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses who cared for him in his final days. In lieu of flowers, Bob would want everyone to love their neighbors and volunteer at their church or in their community. Monetary contributions to Caring Hearts and Hands of Columbia (1307 W. Broadway, Columbia, MO 65203), The Foodbank for Central and Northeast Missouri, or the Central Missouri Humane Society are encouraged. Condolences may be left at Dignity Memorial Funeral Home (1217 Business Loop 70 W, Columbia, MO 65202).
