Robert Guthrie

Robert (Bob) Lee Guthrie, 76, of Columbia, MO passed away on January 21, 2025 after a long battle with Cancer. He was born July 8, 1948 in Kansas City, MO, to Oliver James and Dorothy (Carter) Guthrie, graduated from David H. Hickman High School in 1966. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Columbia College in 1980. Bob was married to Suzanne (Neppl) Guthrie on April 23, 1988.

Services will be Wednesday, January 29 at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia, MO with visitation at 12:00 noon and funeral service to begin at 1:00pm. Saint Louis Cardinal and golf shirts are welcome.

Bob served in the US Air Force (1968-1974), in Viet Nam in the field of Automated Flight Control Systems. Before his Honorable Discharge the Air Force cross-trained him to work in the Health Care industry. He returned to Columbia, MO and worked his entire career at University of MO Health Care attaining a title of Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (one of the first in Missouri to be certified) and was an expert in developing computer network/programs.

Bob had a passion for golf, softball, baseball, and shuffleboard. He loved going for rides on his Harley Davidson. He was a member of the $3 Golf Club, serving as Secretary for several years, the Eagles and the Elks. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs. He enjoyed working around the house, completed many woodworking projects, and really enjoyed dancing the Texas 2-step with Suzanne.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne, his sister Mary Jane Guthrie, cousin Beverly Carmichael, Son Chris (Trici), many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces, as well as Suzanne’s family who loved him very much.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver James and Dorothy Guthrie, his uncle and aunt, JT and Mary Francis Burton, who he lived with from the age of 4, and his daughter Nancy Jo (Chester) Jenkins, and cousin Carter Burton.
