Ronald Douglas Sheeley, 78, of Columbia, MO passed away Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the Harry S. Truman VA Hospital. He was born November 23, 1946, in St. Louis, MO to Frank and Olga Sheeley Parker. He married Marinelle James/Hemphill on October 3, 1998, and she survives.
He served in the US Army Infantry, walking point, during the Vietnam War from 1969 – 1971. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. For 23 years, he worked as an Environment Specialist for the Missouri Department of Natural Resources until he retired in 2009. Following his retirement, he worked as a security guard for the Missouri Department of Social Services. He was a member of both the Church of Christ in Cape Girardeau and Oakland Christian Church in Columbia.
Ron is survived by his wife of 26 years, Marinelle Sheeley; sons from his previous marriage, Bruce Sheeley of Carbondale, IL and Charles Sheeley of Highland, IL; three grandsons and one granddaughter; and stepchildren, John Hemphill and Kari Hemphill Clark.
A celebration of Ronald’s life will be held later. Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.
