Very sorry to hear of Sharyn's passing, I just learned of her death. I haven't seen Sharyn in many years, but she was on my mind many times.  I am glad she is with her beloved Jerry, as they were both wonderful people.  Jerry was such a great storyteller (the pink jeep story in Arizona at the Grand Canyon) and Sharyn was a fantastic cook!  What I loved most about both of them was the fact, they didn't let their disabilities get them down, they always moved forward in their lives and lived independently and stayed active.  I pray for the family's grief and understand that Jerry and Sharyn are together forever, once again!  Fly high my friends.

Sharyn will be greatly missed.  She was responsible for my husband and I meeting each other.  We both knew her through Social Work Graduate School at MU.  We developed a strong friendship throughout the years.  We are sorry we missed her funeral.  Our deepest sympathy goes out to her family.  Dan and Eva Williams

Sharyn was one of my good friends and favorite people.  We got together for lunch often, and my husband, Bob and I shared many good times with her and Jerry.  We fished together, had dinner with them in their home or at a restaurant, and shared many good times.
They always amazed us that their limitations did not keep them from outdoor activities, traveling, and almost anything they wanted to do.  We miss Jerry's stories (which were different every time we heard them) and Sharyn's laugh and companionship.  They were wonderful people.

We have a ton of great memories over the years of wonderful meals and long evenings of conversation with Sharyn and Jerry. We will miss Sharyn so much. She was kind, funny, compassionate, smart, independent and the list goes on. 
To her family, we are so sorry for your loss and will be thinking of you all and praying for you in coming days.

Sharyn was a dear friend for many years. We spent time as couples when both our husbands were alive but after the death of both our Jerrys we became much closer. We spent many thanksgivings, Christmas’s, and New Year’s together as well as  several years of art in the park and TrueFalse. Spending time with good friends and family was essential to Sharyn. She loved to have dinners at her house where you could never leave without taking a plate of leftovers.
I so admired Sharyn for her fierce independence and enthusiastic joy de vie. When we first started doing activities together she looked at me and said “do you think you can keep up with me?”
Serious question, she could really get around in that wheelchair and you better not push her when she didn’t need help.
Finally I just want Roger, Sharyn’s brother, and Lee, her nephew,  to know how much both of you meant to her. Her love and appreciation for both of you was immense. I heard a lot about both of you being there for her.  Lee it was always a pleasure to have you join many holiday celebrations.
Finally I am thankful for the wonderful new years celebration I was able to have with Sharyn.

I worked with Sharyn at the Harry S. Truman VA Hospital in the early 1970s where she was an exemplary social worker. She was smart, compassionate, funny, and a true advocate for her veteran clients. It was an honor to know and work alongside Sharyn, who taught me how powerfully important social workers are to improving the lives of others. I'm sure the numbers she helped are countless. And despite her "disability," she showed us how being in a wheelchair didn't stop her dedication and service. Sharyn always had a smile and a laugh and was a joy to work with and know. 
I send the family my deepest sympathy. Sharyn was and remains a beautiful human being who left the world a better place.

Sharyn and I were good  friends in Columbia for many years. We lived five minutes apart, and we shared many movies and football games together. We always shared our birthdays together at her house with a good meal and birthday cake. 
   Sharyn worked closely with my husband, John Patterson, MD, at Truman, VA hospital. They were also close friends over many years.
   I will think about and miss Sharyn every single day.   Much love to her family and friends.

I loved looking at these pictures!!  Sharyn and I worked together at the VA Hospital from the early 70's on.  She was always so pleasant and nice, and never became upset with any of the problems we always seemed to throw her way.  She had a "cool head" in the sometimes chaotic work setting.  Condolences to her friends and family.

I am so grateful for, and will so much miss, Sharyn's longstanding and steadfast friendship to both my wife Anne and I, and for her having extended herself to be like an aunt over the years to our now-grown sons. I am still touched by how Sharyn flew all the way to Dallas to see our first born, and how she and Jerry many years later would have the boys over Sundays for dinners when they were in college at Mizzou.  Sharyn similarly took Anne and I under wing when she and Anne met in grad school when we were just twenty-somethings, with fond memories of the times we got to just hang out at Sharyn's with she and Granny, a remarkable person in her own right, who was so kind as to make baked goodies.  It has been my privilege to know Sharyn, this smart, practical, no-nonsense, can-do person, who is one of the finest persons I know.  Sharyn's pluck and determination led her to make for herself a richly meaningful life, from her having picked a wonderful man and ideal fit to be her life partner, to her having dedicated herself vocationally to helping others in life through her many years of professional service at the VA, to her having been a friend to many.  Will miss you, Sharyn (especially going to all those Roots N Blues Festivals with you), but will keep you close.

This was taken in 1985 with our first child. Sharyn flew down to Dallas to attend his baptism as his official Godmother. Sharyn and I shared all the big milestones of adult life and all the daily little events that make up life. I wish we had lived closer after our retirement. Sharyn was a huge gift in my life and I can't imagine the world without her in it.

I rememberr Sharyn fondly from High School days. She was always cheerful and smiling. She was an excellent example to all her classmataes with her cheerful positive outlook.  I know she suffered much in her early years before I met her but that never phased her. i recall  fellow male classmates carrying her up and down the stairs of the high school as a joyful task they shared. She brought us all a little closer together. The last I remember of her she said she was going to school in Columbia because the school had handicap access; something that was unique back then. I have lost contact with her over time but heard she stayed in Columbia and was doing well. I'm sorry to hear of her passing.

Prayers for Sharyn and her family. I was one of the young men that helped her with her wheel chair getting from class to class. I have thought of her often.
