He was born in Boone County May 15, 1931 to Sidney Bradley Powell, Sr and Forestelle Riley Powell. He married June Henderson in 1953.
Celebration of Life services will be delayed until June 23, 2018 to gather his family from around the globe. The service will be held at Memorial Funeral Home with a visitation at 10:00 am and a service following at 11:00 am.
Sid graduated in 1949 from Hickman High School, received his Masters in Soils from University of Missouri, Columbia in 1954, and was a member of ROTC and Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. He served in the Army at Fort Sill, OK and Fort Lewis, WA. He started his career as manager of Henderson Implement Company and then was employed by Allis-Chalmers Farm Equipment, working in: St. Louis, Milwaukee, Ankeny, Atlanta, Arlington, Franklin, and Blue Springs. He took an early retirement to manage the family farms in Boone County where he worked alongside the County Agriculture Organizations. Throughout his life, Sid supported Woodlandville United Methodist Church, faithfully serving His Lord.
Sidney's philanthropic interests centered around the PET project (recently renamed Mobility Worldwide). He sent thousands of homemade wooden toys to third-world countries around the world. He often said that his goal was not to give children their best toy but their only toy.
Sidney is survived by his wife June of The Terrace Retirement Center in Columbia and his sister Dr. Dorothy Powell Smith in New Orleans. Daughters: Janis (Tim) Ryder, Kathy Bradley, Phyllis (Russ) Gregg. Grandchildren: Katie Ryder, Kyle (Jorge) Bradley, Keith (Kate) Bradley, Kurtis Bradley, Jonathan (Casey) Gregg, Hannah Gregg, Aaron (Elaine) Gregg and five great grandchildren (Ben, Calvin Sidney, Eloise, Eliana, and Maxine June), two nephews, and a niece.
