Verda was born into the Monroe family on February 2nd, 1938 to her parents Ralph Monroe and Mary Hagerman of Boone County, MO.
On March 30th, 1958, Verda married Lee Hendren in Columbia, MO. During their marriage, Verda and Lee produced two beautiful children; Bruce and Joy Hendren.
Verda graduated from Hickman High School in 1956 where she was active in the C.O.E program. While involved, Verda would spend half of her school day working in a business of her choice. The C.O.E program encouraged her to apply skills she learned in school to her chosen job. While in high school, Verda worked for a barbeque restaurant that was owned by her father. Over her lifetime, Verda held several other jobs around Columbia which included a receptionist position at Memorial Funeral Home, a position in the purchasing department at the University of Missouri, and a spot alongside her husband, Lee, at Superior Supply.
In her daily life, Verda spent her time watching her most favored soap opera “The Days of Our Lives” and enjoyed watching NASCAR races on television. She was fortunate enough to enjoy a NASCAR Daytona race in-person with her son, Bruce, in 2011. She enjoyed spending time and pressing her luck at “The Boat” (Isle of Capri Casino) and absolutely adored listening to Elvis. Music was important to Verda and she owned many CD’s and records from numerous artists that she treasured.
Verda was preceded in death by both of her parents; two brothers: RS Monroe and Bill Monroe; her beloved husband: Lee Hendren; a son: Brian Hendren; and close friends: Bobby Roberts and Mary Massey.
She is survived by her children: Bruce (Tammy) Hendren and Joy Hendren; siblings: Richard Monroe and Bertha Monroe; grandchildren: Alicia Brooks and Cassandra Mahon; a great grandson: Arthur Mahon; and a loving extended family who will carry on her legacy.
