Verdell Lee Lewis

On October 7, 1954, he was born to the late Emmett Verdell Lewis and the late Peggy (Hodge) Lewis in Columbia, Missouri.

He was united in marriage to Mary (Heywood) Lewis on November 25, 1988, at Shelter Gardens in Columbia, Missouri.

Verdell was a man who found joy in life's simple pleasures. He enjoyed fishing, trying his luck at gambling, playing video games, traveling, and, most of all, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Mary Lewis; his son, Verdell Lewis; his daughter, Merideth Lewis; stepdaughter, Lori Westhoelter (Shadd); stepsons, Ronald Koopmeiners and Kirk Koopmeiners (Andrea); and his sisters, Trudy Lewis, Peggy Smith (Phil), Anna Cavanaugh, and Debbie Schull (Bruce).

Verdell was the proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Lewis; his stepdaughter, Lisa Koopmeiners; and his brother-in-law, Robert Cavanaugh.

Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2026, starting at 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Hallsville Community Center, 324 E HWY OO, Hallsville MO 65255. There will be finger foods but lots of love and celebration of memories.
