He was born April 28, 1929 to Melvin and Isabelle (Pierce) Sorrels in Boone County, Missouri. He was a graduate of Hickman High School. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Whitesides on May 1, 1950.
Walter owned and operated Sorrels Used Auto Parts since 1954. He was a member of Broadway Christian Church and the Sunrise Optimists. He had a passion for racing and old vehicles.
He is survived by wife of 71 years, Dorothy; sons: Mark (Debby) Sorrels of Columbia, and Kevin (Cheryl) Sorrels of Crescent City, California; brother, Richard Sorrels of Columbia; three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Walter is preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Susan Cheryl Kallenbach.
A visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Friday, May 14, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m., both at Memorial Funeral Home. Burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
