William Elder, 91, a lifelong member of Columbia, MO passed away Sunday November 11, 2018 at his home. A Memorial Service will be 10:00 am, Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Memorial Funeral Home 1217 Business Loop 70 West Columbia, MO, friends may gather from 9:30 am -10:00 am at the Funeral Home.
William was born August 25, 1927 in Columbia to William Elder, Sr. and Hattie Carnes. He was a 1945 graduate of Hickman High School and worked for LaCrosse Lumber before serving in the US Army. He served in Japan from 1950-52 servicing Jeeps in the Motor pool. Upon his return in 1952, we went back to work for LaCrosse until 1953, when he married Donna Fulkerson in Kansas City, MO. He then went to work for the US Postal Service as a Rural Route Carrier. He carried mail for over 30 years before retiring in 1982. After retirement, he went to work for DBC Rentals taking care of maintenance and repairs. He was active in the community, serving in the VFW and American Legion where he was a past Grand Commander, he was a member of the Knights Templar and Twilight Lodge #114.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Donna Elder, children; Craig Elder of Columbia, Lisa (John) Victor of Moberly, Jeff (Gail) Elder of O’Fallon, and Cindy (Les) Acton of Columbia; eight grandchildren, Joshua and Jeremy Elder, Brandon (Nicole) Victor, Shawna Victor, Ashley and Amber Elder, Amanda (Justin) Melvin, and Dalton Acton; nine great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. His parents, brothers, John and Floyd Elder and sister Jewell Bledsoe preceded him in death.
