On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, Allen "Sonny" McKenzie, of the Hurricane Creek Community in Mississippi, peacefully passed from this life into God's presence at the age of 76. He was born in Marion County, Mississippi to Boyd and Myrtle McKenzie and has remained a lifelong resident of the Hurricane Creek Community where he was a member of Hurricane Creek Baptist Church. Known as a hard worker, Sonny worked in the timber industry for over 30 years and the majority of his career was spent proudly working with Jones Lumber Company. Sonny lived life to the fullest and enjoyed many interests, including dirt track racing, NASCAR, hunting and fishing. His passion, however, was for fishing and he was the happiest when he was on his houseboat and fishing the Pearl River. Sonny also loved frying those fish for his family and friends anytime there was a gathering. If you knew Sonny, you would know that he always spoke his mind and you never had to wonder what he was thinking. He will be remembered for the deep love that he had for his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Ettie Faye Ervin, Ruth McCain, Rachel Rogers, and Murleen Goar; two brothers, Billy Ray McKenzie and Roy McKenzie; a sister-in-law; Rae McKenzie; and five brothers-in-law, Jeffrey McWhorter, S.D. Goar, Paul Rogers, Jerry "Buck" Ervin, and Kenneth McCain. Sonny is survived by a sister, Linda McWhorter; a brother, Doylton McKenzie (Mary), a sister-in-law, Elaine McKenzie; two special great-nieces whom he thought of as his own granddaughters, Maycee McKenzie and Morgan McKenzie; special friends, Tammy Solmon and her son, Myles; his faithful Jack Russell companion of fourteen years, Buttons; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a funeral service to celebrate Sonny's life at Colonial Funeral Home on Thursday, December 18, 2025, 2:00pm. Friends may visit with the family from 12:00pm until service time. The funeral service will be officiated by Reverend Cory Odom. Burial will follow in the Hurricane Creek Baptist Church Cemetery assisted by Jason McKenzie, Reggie Rogers, Raymond McKenzie, Eric McKenzie, Jody Knight, and Danny Hammonds serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Chad Hammonds, Randy Hammonds, Randy Ervin, Kenny Stringer, and Grant Grisham.
