Archie Herbert Turnage, of Foxworth, Mississippi, went to meet our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 17, 2025 at the age of 73. He was born in Tylertown to Archie and Bobbie Jean Turnage and has been a lifelong resident of Marion County. Herbert was known as a hard worker and worked many jobs in his lifetime from Orleans Furniture to the oilfield. His favorite job, however, was hauling paper wood. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals from the vegetables harvested from his garden. Herbert loved his family and was devoted to “his girls.” He was content with the simple things in life and was happiest when he was at home with his rabbits, his sheep, his goats, and his donkeys. Herbert will be remembered for his quick wit and dry sense of humor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Rutland; a brother-in-law, James Stinson; and a nephew, Bertis Stinson. Herbert is survived by his soulmate, Sandra Greenlee; two daughters, Jeanie Jones (Russell) and Ashley Burbank (Eric); two sisters, Mureline McNabb (Jimmy) and Bobbie Sue Stinson; four grandchildren, Maggie Burbank, Archie Burbank, Preston Burbank, and Aust’n Jones; two step-daughters, Jennifer Stringer (Cliff) and their children and Aleshia Walley (Kyle) and their children; a step-son, Chris Griffis (Ashley) and their children; and his faithful canine companion, Chee Chee “his favorite daughter.”
There will be a visitation for Herbert at Colonial Funeral Home on Monday, January 20, 2025 from 12:00pm until 2:00pm. The funeral service, officiated by Jeremy Johnson and Kyle Underwood, will follow in the funeral home chapel at 2:00pm. He will be laid to rest in Turnage Chapel Cemetery.
