Charles (Chuck) Wayne White of Columbia, MS, age 66, died on June 28, 2021 at home surrounded by his closest family. Born August 17, 1954 in Columbia, to Hugh L. and Nita White, Chuck was a Christian, Navy Veteran, life long learner, devoted father and grandfather, and dear friend to many near and far. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1972 where he was in the band. Soon after high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he achieved an Aviation Electronic and Search & Air Rescue ratings during his service. Chuck married Barbara Noe Koch on November 1978 and they welcomed their only daughter, Jennifer White Warren, in May 1982, in Cedar Rapids, IA. He graduated from Kirkwood Community College (Cedar Rapids, IA) with an Associate’s Degree in Internet Programming in 2000.
Chuck was truly a renaissance man throughout his life which was full of variety when it came to his interests and vocations – curious about a lot in the world. After having traveled the world through his Navy service, living and working throughout different places in the country, he returned home to Columbia permanently in 2005, where he found his ultimate calling in serving the community by earning his Paramedic certification and working for AAA Ambulance Service for a number of years prior to retiring in 2019. He was also a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.
Chuck most enjoyed time with his closest family and friends; but especially with his nearby parents, daughter, son-in-law (Nathan) and 3 grandchildren – Evelyn (11), Nicholas (8), and Hannah (8) – who reside in Sioux Falls, SD. Many have described Chuck as someone who would help them with anything and a good listener.
He is survived by his parents, Hugh L. and Nita White of Columbia, MS; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Nathan; grandchildren, Evelyn, Nicholas, and Hannah, all of Sioux Falls, SD; brother and sister-in-law Robert (Scooter) and Paula White of Columbia, MS; and brother and sister-in-law Ron and Vicki White of Yoakum, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service, officiated by Reverend Tommy Broom, in Woodlawn Cemetery on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cedar Grove Baptist Church or Forest General Hospice. Colonial Funeral Home of Columbia was entrusted with arrangements.
