Charlsie Dee “Dink” Broom, of Columbia, Mississippi, peacefully passed from this life into the presence of God at the age of 90. She was born to Leonard and Allie Lucus and was raised on the family farm in the Melba Community West of Sumrall. Growing up on a farm, Charlsie Dee learned the value of hard work picking cotton and developed a love for pickling and canning the harvest from the land. She had an outgoing personality and would talk to anyone who came close enough to her. Charlsie Dee was a godly woman of deep faith who served her Lord through her longtime membership with Pine Ridge Baptist Church where she loved singing in the choir. She was devoted to her family and loved family gatherings. Charlsie Dee will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Leasie Hudson and Nell Giannini; two brothers, Norman Lucus and Billy Lucas; and her beloved husband of 70 years, Lloyd Broom. Charlsie Dee is survived by a daughter, Theresa Stringer; a son, Jerry Broom (Robin); two brothers, Roy “Toad” Lucus (Peggy) and Dewayne Lucus (Erma); a sister-in-law, Carolyn Lucas; five grandchildren, Stephanie McCormick (Scott), Jason Stringer (Kim), Steven Stringer (Tanna), Chris Broom (Haley), and D’Anna McMahan (Will); eight great-grand-children, Tyler Stringer (Taylor), Lucas Stringer, Bella Stringer, Cameron Broom, Landon Broom, Eliza Broom, Easton McMahan, and Lane McMahan; a great-great-grandson, Tommy Lloyd Stringer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a funeral service to celebrate Charlsie Dee’s life at Colonial Funeral on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at 1:00pm. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00am until service time. The service will be officiated by Brother J. T. Farve, Doctor Rick Clark, and Brother Neal Breeland. Burial will follow in the Manton Broom Family Cemetery assisted by Chris Broom, Wesley Bass, Tyler Stringer, Glen Patterson, Donald Wayne Lucus, and Keith Lucus serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will include Landon Broom, Easton McMahan, Lane McMahan, Bryce Burge, and Kevin Lucus.
