D. E. “Red” Dawsey Jr., of Sumrall, Mississippi, passed away at his home on Thursday, May 14, 2020. Born and raised in Columbia, MS to D. E. Dawsey Sr. and Marie McDonald Dawsey, he was the oldest sibling of Kim Marie, Timothy, and John. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1965. Mr. Dawsey married Elizabeth Darlene Gibson in 1967 and worked for 43 years on the Gulf Coast with Shell Oil Company and Ocean Energy Company until his final retirement in 2008. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister. Mr. Dawsey is survived by two sons, Jason Edward (Amber) Dawsey of New Orleans and Wesley Douglas Dawsey of Gulfport; two brothers, Timothy Dawsey of Pittsburg, KS and John (Beverly) Dawsey of Houston, TX; a host of nieces and nephews; and special companion, Vickie Newman of Evansville, IN.
Mr. Dawsey will be interred in New Union Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Columbia. A memorial event will be announced for later in the year.
