Don E. Broom, age 77, of Columbia, MS passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024. He proudly served in the US Navy and later worked in the oilfield. Don was a class A certified welder, and owned several businesses including Broom’s Welding Service, and Don Broom Trucking where he worked more than 20 years and retired. Don opened Don’s Music Barn where he and his band served the community by playing music for free every Friday night for anyone who wanted to come and listen. He was a very talented musician and loved to play the guitar and sing. Don had very a big and generous heart and loved to give and do anything he could to help anyone in need. He was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of New Union Baptist Church. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Mr. Broom was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 42 years, Lillie Daun Broom; his parents, Cecil Broom and Eula Dudley Broom; sisters, Velma Martin, Mildred Bounds, and Georgia Nell Robbins; and brothers, Shelton "Frank" Broom, Howard Broom, Jimmy Broom, and Robert "Cobb" Broom.
He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Sanford; sons, Lavon "Bubba" Broom, and Kevin Michael Broom; a sister, Bonnie Maxwell; a brother, Charlie Broom (Debbie); five grandchildren, Hunter Broom (Ashley), Preston Broom (Santana), Sammy Broom, Abigail Broom, and Michael Broom; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 29, 2024 at 5:00 PM at New Union Baptist Church and funeral services at the church on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 2:00 PM. Brother Neal Davis, Brother Darrin Webb, and Brother David Robbins will officiate and burial will follow at New Union Cemetery assisted by Andy Robbins, Mike Maxwell, Clifford Robbins, Rodney Robbins, Terry Randall and Jeff Foxworth as pallbearers.
