Donald Edward "Don" Christie

Donald Edward “Don” Christie, of Columbia, Mississippi, passed away in Columbia on Monday, February 7, 2022 at the age of 89. He was born in Kerlin, Arkansas to Tillman and Lucy and has been a resident of Columbia for the past 62 years. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Don worked in the oil field for many years and later started his own trucking company, Christie Trucking, where he drove. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards, especially Cribbage. Don was devoted to his family and it has been noted that he never missed a ballgame played by his grandchildren. He will be remembered as the best story teller.

He was preceded in death by his father, Tillman Christie; his mother, Lucy Row; a brother, Tommy Christie; and his wife of 65 years, Dimple Christie. Don is survived by two daughters, Cornelia (Mike) Criddle and Laura Christie; two sons, Sammy Christie and Jamie Christie; nine grandchildren, Kent (Rachel) Criddle, Luke (Hailey) Criddle, LeAnn (Jason) Harvey, Lacy (Kyle) Wilks, Lori Beth Christie, Jamie Christie II, Shaw Christie, Alex Christie, and Olivia (Taylor) Fortenberry; and eleven great-grandchildren, Rylee Cooper, Maggie Wilks, Macie Wilks, Merritt Wilks, Olan Ketchings, Destini Christie, Zoe Christie, Jaila Christie, Madison Christie, Henry Criddle, and Harrison Fortenberry.

There will be a visitation for Don at Colonial Funeral Home from 10:00am until 12:00pm on Thursday, February 10, 2022. The funeral service, officiated by Brother Mark McNair, will follow in the funeral home chapel at 12:00pm. He will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery assisted by Kent Criddle, Luke Criddle, Jason Harvey, Kyle Wilks, Taylor Fortenberry, Jeremy Childress, Mike Childress, Olan Ketchings, Jamie Christie II, and Shaw Christie serving as pallbearers.
