Dwight Darron Slocum, 76, affectionately known as “Red,” passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. Born on July 15, 1948, in Tylertown, MS, he was the middle of three sons of the late Harry Slocum, Jr. and Rosalie Pounds Slocum.
On August 30, 1966, Darron married the love of his life, Brenda Turnage, in Foxworth, MS. Together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work, raising two wonderful children in the New Hope community, where Darron spent his entire life.
Darron worked in both the logging and fruit industries and was a devoted member of New Hope Baptist Church. A man of deep faith, he never missed an opportunity to share the good news of Jesus with those around him. In his free time, he enjoyed watching sports, snacking, and spending cherished moments with his four beloved grandchildren.
Darron was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Garry Slocum.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Brenda Slocum; his children, Brandon Slocum (Julie), and Blake Smith (Patrick); his brother, Brent Slocum; and his grandchildren, Olivia Pence (Will), Carter Smith, Ava Slocum, and Camilla Smith. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and laughter that will be remembered by all who knew him.
Family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, May 1, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at New Hope Baptist Church. Funeral services celebrating Darron's life will be conducted in the church sanctuary at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 2, 2025 where friends may visit one hour prior to service time. Reverend Willie Martin and Doctor Jerry Watts will officiate and burial will follow at Lott Memorial Cemetery assisted by Carl Craft, Alan Herrington, Trent Pittman, Codie Slocum, Neil Stringer, Nathan White, as pallbearers, and honorary pallbearers, Clinton Conerly, Dwayne Fight and Mark Kroner.
Memorial contributions are preferred to New Hope Baptist Church Gideon Bible Fund or your local church to help provide Bibles and continue spreading the message of Jesus Christ.
