On Monday, July 6, 2026, Effie Marie Tippit, of Columbia, Mississippi, departed this life to be with Jesus at the age of 92. She was born in Marion County, Mississippi to Alcus and Seba Prine where she has remained a lifelong resident. Effie was known as Maw Maw to everyone who was close to her. She had a way of making anyone feel welcome and if you spent time with her, you were certain to hear her tell you, "I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck." Maw Maw deeply loved her family and being an excellent cook, took great pride in preparing meals for family gatherings. Her favorite song was "One Day At A Time" and that was exactly how she lived her life. She loved playing games with her grandchildren and reflecting on those times, they have come to realize that Maw Maw always let the children win. Her special place was the front porch swing. If you drove by her house, you would probably see her in her special place. Maw Maw was a woman of deep faith and before her health began to fail, was an active member of the Turnage Chapel Congregational Methodist Church. It was there that she taught Sunday School and served as the Secretary and Treasurer for many years. Maw Maw leaves a legacy of faith to her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Myrtis Baham and Gladys Strong; two brothers, James Prine and Howard Prine; a great-grand daughter, Brittney Roddy; two grandchildren, Rhonda Broom and Timothy Hall; two sons Edwin Tippit and Shelby Tippit; and her beloved husband of 62 years, Frank Tippit. Maw Maw is survived by two daughters, Janella Tippit and Darlene Pounds (John); nine grandchildren, Regina Teague, Randy Tippit (Stacy), Renee Lowery (Scott), Melissa Garrett (Blaine), Christi Smith (Clinton), Andrea Pounds, Eric Pounds (Kelli), Bridget Poeller (Corey), and Misty Kennedy (Steve); 24 great-grandchildren, 25 great-great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-great-grandchildren.
There will be a funeral service to celebrate Maw Maw's life at Colonial Funeral Home on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 12:00pm. Friends may visit with the family from 10:30am until service time. The service will be officiated by Reverend Eric Pounds and John Pounds. She will be laid to rest in Bedwell Cemetery assisted by Randy Tippit, Scott Holloway, Rance Pounds, Hunter Smith, Shaden Brownlee, and Corey Poeller serving as pallbearers.
