On Saturday, August 29, 2026, Elaine Ball, of Sandy Hook, Mississippi passed from this life into God's presence at the age of 81. She was born in Marion County to P.J. and Maude Hammond, graduated from West Marion High School, and has remained a lifelong resident of Marion County. Elaine retired from the Marion County School System where she worked for many years driving a bus and cooking in the cafeteria. She was a woman of deep faith and an active member of Hurricane Creek Baptist Church. Elaine loved to travel and especially enjoyed time with good friends in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. She loved her family fiercely and will be remembered for her kindness.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Claude Hammonds and her beloved husband, Ed Ball. Elaine is survived by two daughters, Willie Faye Buchanan (Billy) and Rachel Turnage (Chris); a son, Ryan Ball; a step-daughter, Melinda Pittman (Alfred); a niece / bonus daughter, Rhonda Adcox; a sister, Theomae Stringer; a brother, Carroll Hammond (Dana); twelve grandchildren, Mackie Breeden (Loni), Kyle Breeden (Kyla), Eric Buchanan (Crystal), Jennifer Allen (Roy), Colton Turnage (Morgan), Cheyenne Ellis (Dra), Logan Ledet, Bentley Ball, Ella Ball, Gavin Ball, Kaden Ledet, and Ian Pittman; thirteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
There will be a visitation for Elaine at Hurricane Creek Baptist Church on Monday, August 31, 2026, from 5:00pm until 8:00pm and friends may also visit on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 9:00am until 2:00pm. The funeral service, officiated by Reverend Zach Smith, will begin at 2:00pm. Elaine will be laid to rest in the Hurricane Creek Church Cemetery assisted by Colton Turnage, Chad Hammonds, Chip Adcox, P.J. Hammond, Jr. Hammond, and Kenny Stringer serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will include Mackie Breeden, Kyle Breeden, Randy Hammonds, and Danny Hammonds.
