Elsie Phillips Sistrunk, 77, a lifelong resident Sumrall, MS passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. Born on August 29, 1948, Elsie lived a life marked by compassion, steady generosity, and a thoughtful devotion to the people she loved.
A homemaker, Elsie built her days around caring for others with a selfless spirit and a kind heart. Her home was a place where family, friends, and even a few strangers could find a welcome seat—especially around the Sunday dinner table, where her warmth and hospitality were felt as much as they were shared.
Affectionately known to her grandchildren as “Dalie,” Dalie was cherished for the way she made others feel seen and cared for. Her love was active and constant—shown in her support of her grandchildren in all their social and sports activities, and in the countless quiet ways she offered encouragement. Life will not be the same without “Dalie.”
Dalie’s joy for living shone through in the things she loved: gardening flowers, camping and fishing, caring for animals, and dancing whenever the moment invited it. She also enjoyed casino life, embracing each outing with a sense of adventure and a spirit that inspired those around her.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas “Tommy” Sistrunk; her parents, Zeal Phillips and Inez Thompson Phillips; a son, Billy "Bull" Sistrunk; and four sisters.
She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Thompson (Rickey) and Amy Whitehurst; her son, Donald Sistrunk (Nita); sisters, Cynthia Hall, Bobbie Phillips, Judy Slade (Larry), Diane Sistrunk (Buddy), and Barbara Breland; brothers, Zeal Phillips, Jr. (Vicki), John Phillips (Debbie), Robert Phillips (Linda), Ronald Phillips, and James Phillips (Connie); and twelve grandchildren, Thomas "T.J." Sistrunk, Joel Sistrunk, Zeal Sistrunk, Nathaniel Sistrunk, Ryan Whitehurst, Zachary Sistrunk, Samuel Thompson, Austin Whitehurst, Grayson Whitehurst, Jasmine Sistrunk, Taylor Lindsey, and Carley Sistrunk.
Visitation will be held at Colonial Funeral Home on Thursday, April 30, 2026, from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm, and again on Friday, May 1, 2026, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.
