Hilton graduated from Columbia High School in 1952. Shortly after graduation he enlisted and served in the United States Navy. He married his wife, Ruby Wilson in December of 1956, and they were days shy of celebrating their 69th anniversary. He was a faithful member of Morgantown Church of God. He loved to fellowship and hear his grandson Cory preach the word of God.
He was a loyal supporter of West Marion High School and had the softball field named after he and Ruby. He also followed Salem High School sports. He was instrumental in the MVP award presented to the Marion County Football’s top player.
Hilton was a successful businessman and entrepreneur, who owned his own gas station (Tenneco), and later H & R, where he not only ran a service station, but also held public auctions, had a trophy business, and a check cashing service.
Hilton is preceded in death by his parents, Hezzie and Maggie Holmes, twelve brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Ruby of 68 years, three daughters; Sherry Odom of Foxworth, Sandra Doig (David) of Columbia, Debbie “Bo” Martin (Byran “Bird”) of Salem; four grandchildren, Cory Odom (Kayla) of Morgantown, Casey Odom (Carla) of Foxworth, Pamela Bourg (Telly) of Salem, Luke Martin of Petal; a “fourth daughter” Debra Carney; ten great grandchildren Gracie Odom, Reece Odom, Dax (“Lil’ Hill”) Odom, Annistyn (“Jumper”), Kaylea Sumrall, Kolbie (“Bug”) Sumrall, Mary Lou (“Scrapper”), Bourg, Greyson Bourg, Mia Bourg, and Kylie Bourg; “Grand daughter #5” Caydance Brumfield; and a host of nieces, nephews, and too many friends to list.
A visitation will be held at Morgantown Church of God on Sunday, December 14, 2025 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm. Reverend Cory Odom will officiate and burial will follow at Hilton and Ruby Holmes Family Cemetery assisted by Casey Odom, Byran "Bird" Martin, David Doig, Luke Martin, Telly Bourg and Wayne Reagan serving as pallbearers. Reece Odom and Dax Odom will serve as honorary pallbearers.
