James Thomas "Tommy" Taylor, of Columbia, Mississippi, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2026, at the age of 66. He was born in Columbia to James and Bessie Taylor, was raised in the Pine Burr Community, graduated from East Marion High School in 1977, and has remained a lifelong resident of Marion County. Known as a hard worker, Tommy was "Jack of all Trades." He seemed to be able to do anything that he set his mind to do. If you knew Tommy, you would know that he was generous to a fault. He had a big heart and would help anyone in need. Tommy will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Taylor Virgil and a granddaughter, Mia Trujillo. Tommy is survived by his wife, Charity Taylor; his children, Jamie Taylor (Karen), Stephanie Henandez (Miguel), Tabitha Taylor (Salvador), Dewayne Sanders (Erin), and Courtney Bass (A.J.); grandchildren, Trevor Taylor, Andrew Taylor, Hailey Reid Miller (Edward), Reagan Taylor, Jody Taylor (Lily), Harrison Reid, Shane Taylor (Haley), Audriana Taylor (Carter), Devon Taylor, Malakai Trujillo, Jaxton Sanders, Jace Sanders, Josie Sanders, Banks Bass, and Everette Bass; great-grandchildren, Koleston Taylor, Kashston Taylor, and Amelia "Millie" Howell on the way.
Reverend C.A. Gatlin will officiate a funeral to celebrate the life of Tommy at Jesus Name Apostolic Church in Foxworth on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at 12:00pm. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 until service time. Burial will follow in the Kokomo Community Cemetery assisted by Trevor Taylor, Shane Taylor, Andrew Taylor, Devon Taylor, Harrison Reid, Reagan Taylor, Jody Taylor, Malakai Trujillo, and Bill Wells serving as pallbearers.
