Joe was artistic and gifted in various capacities. He enjoyed horticulture and appreciated diverse flowers and plants. He was especially fond of growing fruit trees and cultivating his yard. Joe was also well rounded in outdoor activities which included touring the countryside on his motorcycle and enjoying his favorite pastime of fishing.
Mr. Walters was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Walters and Geraldine Riels Walters; and brothers, Arnold Walters, and Ronald Walters.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Rita Walters of Columbia, MS; sisters, Peggy Ward (Bill) of Seminary, MS, Mary Ann Walters, and Janice Walters, both of Hattiesburg, MS; sister's-in-law, Cece Powell (Billy Wayne), and Debbie McDaniel, both of Columbia; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, September 6, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home in Columbia. Following the visitation will be a graveside service at 2:30 PM at Woodlawn Cemetery, officiated by Reverend Craig Sanford. Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Greg Powell, Michael Powell, Brandon Gerald, Zach Lowery, Daniel Lowery, and Max McDaniel.
