Joyce Elaine Boring, of Columbia, Mississippi, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at the age of 78. She was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where she lived until she moved to Columbia eleven years ago. Joyce worked in retail sales for many years in Oklahoma City. She loved life, enjoyed being with her many friends, and thrift store shopping. Joyce had an infectious personality and was never at a loss for words. She will be remembered for always being perfectly dressed anytime she was in public. She was a woman of faith who was always actively involved in a church and was currently a member of East Columbia Baptist Church. More than anything else, Joyce loved her family and cherished the time that she was able to spend with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Juanita Smith; a brother, Kenny Smith; and her husband, Benny Boring. Joyce is survived by a daughter, Belinda (Jerry) Broom; a sister, Barbara Smith; two brothers, J.E. (Jeannie) Smith and Teddy (Betty) Smith; three granddaughters, Tami (Scott) Breland, Misti (Ronnie Dumas) Broom, and Kimberly (K.W.) Anthony; five great-grandchildren, Dylan (Jean Courtney) Pounds, Taylor Breland, Lainey Anthony, Karter Anthony, and Madison Smith; two great-great-grandchildren, Ayden Pounds and Zinlee Smith; and a host of nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation for Joyce at Colonial Funeral Home in Columbia from 5:00pm until 8:00pm on Thursday, July 29, 2021. The funeral service, officiated by Reverend James Bell, will be at East Columbia Baptist Church on Friday, July 30, 2021 at 11:00am where friends may visit with the family from 9:00am until service time. Burial will follow in the church cemetery assisted by Geoffrey McMichael, Jimmy Miller, Evan Broom, Scott Oliver, Marty Breland, and Jim Allen serving as pallbearers.
