I met Jason for the first time about a year and a half ago. It was in the last few months before his passing that I got to really know who he was. I was able to get to know him at heart level. He opened up to me about the good, bad, and ugly in his life. He shared his hurts, habits and hang ups. I believe he would want me to share some of those things. He loved the Lord but at times he felt unloveable, ashamed, and guilty. He loved his family dearly and wanted desperately to get healthy,  stay clean, and mend the broken relationships. He was taking responsibility for his wrongs. Admitting to God, himself and trusted others his sinful nature. Admitting how and who he had hurt in his lifetime. He opened up about how and who he had been hurt by as well. He was in the process of learning how to accept  forgiveness from God. He was getting to the point of understanding that he needed to forgive himself for who he was and to be proud of the man that he was becoming. He also knew that he had to work on forgiving those who had harmed him...not for them but for him. He talked a lot about what the future held for him and my sister in law, Faith. They talked about goals and plans to do whatever it took to get better so that they both could mend all their relationships so that they all could   be a big happy, healthy family. He smiled and laughed a lot. Faith and Jason had this secret little language and body language that melted my heart. Watching them work on themselves and work on their recovery has been a beautiful light in my life that I will never forget.I know he hurt a lot of ppl with his addiction but I know that he was in the process of trying to get better so that he could work on making all those amends. He wanted to be free from his addictions and live a life of Recovery. 
I’m close to 6 years clean from drugs and I saw in him the internal fight that all addicts and recovering addicts struggle with. He was a fighter and I’m honored to have known Him💙
