Manson “June” Holmes, Jr., of Kokomo, Mississippi, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at the age of 92. He was born in Kokomo as the eleventh child to Manson and Gena Holmes and has remained a lifelong resident of Marion County where he was a member of the Columbia Seventh Day Adventist Church. June was a U.S. Army veteran who served his country during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and sitting on the front porch telling stories. June was an excellent storyteller and you never had to wonder what was on his mind. He was one of a kind and a great character who always put others before himself. June will be remembered as a hard worker who was devoted to his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 10 brothers and sisters and his beloved wife of 68 years, Lou Alice Holmes. June is survived by a son, Burl Holmes; five grandchildren, Jamie Holmes (Pamela), Melissa Crosby (Wayne), Jeremy Holmes (Samantha), Jessica Holmes (Joseph), and James Pearce (Nita); thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service for June will be at the graveside in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at 11:00am.
